"While the water of the deeper portion
of this spring fed lake is always cold, along the entire shorefront of Was-Wah-Go-Ning
the water is shallow for a distance of about 200 feet from shore. The
sandy bottom is smooth and clean, and the sun in July and August warms the
shallow water to render bathing a source of delightful enjoyment and
recreation. At no place is there a deep hole, and the water is so
clear that the bottom may be seen at every step which one takes in wading
out from shore. In fact, a pebble or minnow may be seen in the water
from five to ten feet deep."
